Job Summary
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in conducting psychiatric evaluations,diagnosing mental health conditions, prescribing and managing medications, and participating inintegrated care planning with the clinical team. This position is integral to ensuring continuity ofcare, maintaining clinical documentation, and supporting clients on their journey toward recoveryand wellness.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing assessments.
- Diagnose mental health disorders and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as clinically indicated.
- Collaborate closely with therapists, case managers, and other clinical staff to ensure coordinated care.
- Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families on diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans
- Order and interpret lab tests when necessary, and follow up with clients accordingly.
- Maintain clear and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical records management
- Strong understanding of behavioral health principles and clinical practices
- Experience working in mental health settings (partial-care or psychiatric day treatment preferred)
- Excellent crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
- Knowledge of diverse psychotherapy techniques
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality care
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Psychiatric/Mental Health from an accredited institution
- Licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings, with demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Experience working in adult outpatient or day treatment settings preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA and applicable behavioral health regulations.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
